Editorial standard · Version 0.2

Show the work.

A buyer should be able to see which facts are verified, which conclusions are inferred, what changed, and what financial relationship exists.

Four evidence states

Hands-on tested

The machine was physically used under a published, versioned protocol. Original files, settings, materials, outputs, and limits are retained where practical.

Specification verified

A claim was checked against a current official manual, safety document, product page, or other named primary source. The source and verification date are shown.

Owner reported

A claim comes from a defined owner interview or survey cohort. Sample size, collection method, ownership duration, and obvious selection limitations are disclosed.

Editorial inference

BeamBasis connected facts into a recommendation. The reasoning is visible, and the conclusion is never disguised as a test result.

What determines product fit

  1. Material and desired output: cut, surface mark, deep engrave, color mark, inner engrave, or fine-detail processing.
  2. Wavelength and source: diode, CO₂, infrared, fiber, MOPA, or UV.
  3. Workflow: working area, object height, pass-through, rotary, camera, focus, batch handling, software, and repeatability.
  4. Workspace: machine size/weight, extraction, access, noise, electrical needs, supervision, and maintenance.
  5. Economics: complete usable setup, labor, test waste, maintenance, downtime, financing, and order volume.
  6. Support and longevity: warranty, consumables, parts, software dependence, documentation, and owner evidence.

How the alpha finder scores

Fit logic v0.2 is a deterministic triage model applied to the 20 source-backed machines currently in the catalog. It is not a review score, a quality ranking, a prediction of output quality, or a laboratory result.

Inputs and weights

  • Material: +52 when the machine's documented material fit includes the selected goal; −48 when it does not.
  • Workspace: +18 when the machine's documented physical format fits the selected workspace; −12 when it does not.
  • Throughput: +18 when the documented workflow band fits; −8 when it falls outside that band.
  • Budget band: +12 when the machine is in the selected band, reduced by 2 points for each lower band; −20 for each band above the selected budget.
  • Material safeguards: clear acrylic applies an additional −50 to non-CO₂ sources; metal adds +22 to fiber/MOPA; glass adds +24 to UV.

The model sorts the candidate catalog by that total, then shows at most one machine per brand to produce up to three brand-diverse starting points. It does not suppress a poor fit merely because three cards are available: the cautions and “Do not choose it if” text remain part of the decision. A buyer must still verify the exact configuration, physical clearance, ventilation, electrical requirements, safety instructions, local rules, stock, and full setup cost.

What the finder does not use

No coefficient uses affiliate availability, commission rate, network, payout timing, merchant conversion rate, sponsorship, a coupon, or a sale price. Exact prices are deliberately outside the model because they change frequently; the finder uses a maintained working budget band instead. A paying merchant can appear only after the fit calculation, as a separately labeled option.

Calibration and change control

BeamBasis will change the score only through a versioned method update. Before a material rule, weight, catalog field, or hard constraint changes, we record the source/evidence reason, test representative scenarios, compare changed results, and update this page. Experienced-operator review, structured owner evidence, documented hands-on testing, product discontinuations, or a material source correction can trigger a review. Commission economics cannot be a trigger for a score change.

The score is a triage device, not laboratory proof. Recommendations are reviewed when the data model, product catalog, or evidence changes.

Commercial safeguards

  • Disclosure appears before or adjacent to monetized recommendations.
  • At least one non-merchant alternative is included when appropriate: outsource, makerspace, wait, repair, or use the current machine.
  • “Who should not buy” is required on commercial pages.
  • Prices and promotions carry verification dates; fake scarcity is prohibited.
  • Merchant samples, sponsorships, and material relationships are labeled.
  • Errors can be submitted and material corrections are logged.

Safety scope

BeamBasis helps buyers identify planning questions; it does not replace manufacturer instructions, safety data sheets, a laser safety officer, fire/electrical professionals, local codes, or workplace requirements. Unknown materials are not processed until composition and hazards are established.
