xTool F2 Ultra UV vs F2 Ultra: wavelength decides

These are not interchangeable ‘Ultra’ upgrades. The F2 Ultra UV is a 5W, 355 nm UV system with a 200 × 200 mm surface field and a 70 × 70 mm inner-engraving mode. The dual F2 Ultra combines a 60W MOPA infrared source with a 40W blue diode source in a 220 × 220 mm field. Both list a 15,000 mm/s maximum speed; the material and process decide, not the shared speed headline.

Short verdict

Choose F2 Ultra UV when the product requires its 355 nm UV process—especially glass/crystal surface detail or the documented K9-crystal inner-engraving workflow. Choose the dual F2 Ultra when the work needs its 60W MOPA infrared or 40W diode sources for metal-focused or mixed-material production. Do not choose by the common 15,000 mm/s listed ceiling, and do not assume a manufacturer material list proves your exact finish, depth, or completed-job rate.

Choose F2 Ultra UV when

  • The product is glass or crystal and you need the UV process characteristics documented by the manufacturer—not merely a generic ‘engraves glass’ claim.
  • Your commercial offer specifically needs 3D inner engraving and you can use the dedicated K9 crystal, inner-engraving lens, calibration material, 70 × 70 × 150 mm limit, and operator workflow.
  • Fine surface detail on qualifying UV-compatible material is the bottleneck, and you will make material-specific samples before selling a finish or durability claim.
  • The 200 × 200 mm field fits the product, fixture, margin, and batch arrangement without assuming conveyor or accessory capacity.

Choose the dual F2 Ultra when

  • Metal personalization or metal-production work needs the documented 60W MOPA infrared source rather than UV-specific processing.
  • The job also needs a 40W blue diode source for qualifying nonmetal work, so a dual-source workflow reduces machine changes.
  • A 220 × 220 mm field, dual-source material routing, and the specified MOPA process are more valuable than inner-crystal engraving.
  • You have sampled the exact alloy, coating, finish, artwork, depth, fixture, and safety process; color, depth, and throughput claims are process-specific rather than automatic consequences of MOPA power.

Important evidence gaps

BeamBasis has not physically tested either machine. Manufacturer material compatibility, finish, cutting, color-marking, and speed claims are not independent evidence of a buyer’s exact result, yield, or completed jobs per hour.

The identical 15,000 mm/s listed maximum does not normalize output. Artwork, marking strategy, material, focus, pulse settings, laser source, fixturing, setup time, cooling, and quality threshold determine real throughput.

F2 Ultra UV safety class varies between identified Class 1 and Class 4 configurations; the F2 Ultra guide identifies a Class 4 product. Confirm the exact SKU, regional package, accessories, exhaust plan, fire response, workspace controls, and applicable requirements before checkout.

Who should buy neither?

  • Choose neither if the core job is large sheets, signs, or stock that exceeds the field after fixtures and margins; compare an appropriately sized gantry workflow.
  • Choose neither if the only plan is low-capital proof of demand with ordinary wood/acrylic goods; validate product demand and a lower-capital, suitable machine first.
  • Choose neither if the workspace cannot meet the manufacturer’s laser-safety, ventilation/exhaust, material, supervision, and fire-response requirements.
  • Pause if a sale depends on a promised metal color, glass finish, cut edge, inner-crystal result, or material claim that you have not made and tested on the exact product.

Complete-cost questions before checkout

  1. Which first three revenue products require UV, which require MOPA infrared, and which need the diode source? Put an exact sample and acceptance criterion behind each answer.
  2. Will the entire item, fixture, and safety margin fit the 200 × 200 or 220 × 220 mm surface field, and does the inner-engraving product fit the 70 × 70 × 150 mm documented UV limit?
  3. What is required beyond the machine: the UV inner-engraving lens and calibration items, rotary or fixture, extraction/filtration, safety controls, sample inventory, electricity, training, and fire response?
  4. What do the exact regional SKU, safety classification, warranty, software support, freight, tax, current bundle, and support terms say in writing at checkout?
